DENTAL IMPLANTS 101

Do you have gaps in your smile caused by missing teeth? Do you want an alternative to dentures? Do you have a good level of oral health and keep a good dental routine? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘’yes’’, then you may be suitable for dental implants – and we at Abbey House dental practice, based in Staffordshire, can help.

Amongst our many dental treatments, tooth implants are surprisingly common – but we’ve found that people usually don’t know much about the treatment or aftercare, and have lots of questions. We know how important it is to feel informed about your treatment with us, so in this post, we’ll give you the lowdown on this popular treatment.

Tooth Implants are as durable as natural teeth

With the right care – involving a combination of brushing, flossing, interdental brushes and mouthwash – there’s no reason your new implants shouldn’t last a lifetime. The rule of thumb is to look after your implants as you would your natural teeth.

Implants are extremely discreet

Treatment time varies

As teeth implants are a kind of surgery, and everyone’s healing time is different, the treatment time itself can vary between people. After making a small hole for the implant and inserting the rod ‘root’, you’ll need to give your mouth time to recover before having the cap ‘crown’ fitted. This healing time can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

Lifestyle changes can prolong your implants

If you smoke, drink red wine or coffee regularly, or eat certain foods that stain teeth, it makes sense to cut down or cut these out altogether – after all, you want your shiny new dental implants to last as long as possible!

You’ll still need check-ups

It’s important to still have regular trips to the Dentist – which we can advise on – to keep on top of your general oral health and to make sure your tooth implants heal properly and are maintained as they should be. We can also spot any problems with your implants too, should they happen.

Whether you’re considering implants or already have them and are keen to maintain them properly, book in with our dental practice here in Staffordshire today – just fill out our form to get started.
