The Abbey House Dental Way | How We Invest in Our People, Practice & Community

Abbey House Dental has grown from a small two surgery practice into a wider dental community built around people, learning, technology and patient care. In a recent podcast conversation, Chloe, Marketing Lead at Abbey House Dental, sat down with Dr Amit Jilka to explore what makes the practice different and how its culture continues to shape the way the team works every day.

From the beginning, Dr Amit explained that the goal was simple: to build a practice filled with good people and offer patients access to a wide range of dental services. While the practice has grown far beyond what was first imagined, the core idea has remained the same creating an environment where patients feel cared for and team members feel supported.

A Practice Built on Learning and Mentorship

One of the strongest themes from the conversation was the importance of mentorship. Dr Amit reflected on his own early career, explaining how valuable it would have been to work in a practice where young dentists could learn from senior clinicians, discuss cases openly and receive support with complex treatments.

That is now a key part of the Abbey House Dental culture. Dentists, nurses, specialists and the wider team are encouraged to ask questions, share knowledge and learn from one another. There is no strong sense of hierarchy. Instead, the practice works with an open door approach where everyone contributes towards the same goal: better care for patients.

This supportive structure allows younger clinicians to develop faster, while experienced team members have the opportunity to mentor others. It creates a professional environment where growth is not just encouraged, but expected.

Regular Communication Across the Team

Chloe and Dr Amit also discussed how much organisation happens behind the scenes. Abbey House Dental holds regular meetings across different teams, including nurses, treatment coordinators, clinicians and leadership members. These meetings are not just formal updates, they are used to solve problems, improve systems and make sure the same issues do not keep repeating.

There are also focused meetings for specific areas of care, such as implants, Invisalign, orthodontics and sedation. This helps the team stay aligned and continue improving in each area of treatment.

For Dr Amit, this level of structure is one of the things that makes the practice different. Many dental practices may not have regular team meetings or dedicated clinical discussions. At Abbey House Dental, communication is part of the daily culture.

Encouraging Every Team Member to Grow

The conversation also highlighted that training is not limited to dentists. Nurses are encouraged to build additional skills, including scanning, radiography, CT scanning and sedation support. This means team members are not judged only by how long they have worked in dentistry, but also by how much they continue to learn and contribute.

Chloe shared her own experience of growing within the practice, explaining that she had reached a position she once only hoped for because of the support around her. Dr Amit added that when team members ask what course they should do next, the response is always positive and encouraging.

This mindset keeps the practice moving forward. People who want to learn and improve fit naturally into the Abbey House Dental way of working.

Feedback as an Opportunity to Improve

Another important part of the culture is feedback. Dr Amit explained that the practice gathers patient feedback after appointments and uses it to understand what is working well and what could be improved.

When feedback is shared with the team, it is treated as an opportunity rather than criticism. Sometimes that means having serious conversations, but the aim is always to help people improve and move forward.

This approach reflects the wider philosophy of Abbey House Dental: no practice is perfect, but a strong practice listens, learns and keeps getting better.

Investing in Technology and Facilities

Technology was another major part of Chloe and Dr Amit’s conversation. Dr Amit described the practice as fully digital, with scanners, CT scanners at each site, microscopes for specialist endodontic care and high quality equipment sourced from countries known for precision, including Germany, America, Japan and Switzerland.

Rather than asking patients to travel elsewhere for scans or assessments, the aim is to keep the patient journey as smooth as possible. The practice also uses advanced smile preview technology, including AI supported Invisalign and implant planning tools, helping patients visualise what their smile could look like before treatment begins.

For Abbey House Dental, technology is not just about having modern equipment. It is about making treatment clearer, more comfortable and more predictable for patients.

Supporting the Wider Community

The podcast also touched on the charity ball organised by the team. The event raised over £15,000 for meaningful charities and was supported by local practices, local businesses and the wider community.

Dr Amit explained that the event was created following personal losses within the practice and family. Because it had such a positive impact, the team decided to continue it and make it even bigger.

Alongside the charity ball, Abbey House Dental is also planning a team growth day. The idea is to bring everyone together to reflect on what has gone well, what can improve and how the team can keep learning together. It combines professional development with community impact — something that feels very true to the practice’s values.

Growing Internally, Not Just Getting Bigger

Looking ahead, Dr Amit explained that the focus is no longer on becoming bigger by buying more practices. Instead, the future is about strengthening what already exists.

Internal training is becoming a major priority, with facilities already available at Festival Park. The goal is to create clear structures for dentists, nurses and the wider team so that everyone feels empowered to grow.

At the same time, Dr Amit emphasised the importance of remaining “small enough to care.” Even as the practice develops, the team wants to maintain its community feeling, where people know one another and feel personally connected.

The Abbey House Dental Way

The Abbey House Dental way is not based on one single thing. It is a combination of training, teamwork, honest feedback, advanced technology, patient focused care and community spirit.

Through Chloe’s questions and Dr Amit’s answers, the podcast showed that the practice is built on a simple but powerful idea: when you invest in your people, you improve the experience for everyone. Patients receive better care, clinicians continue to grow and the wider community benefits from a team that wants to make a positive impact.

That is what continues to shape Abbey House Dental, a practice focused not only on dentistry, but on people, progress and purpose.
